NETGEAR WPN824 RangeMax Wireless Router

Product Description

As a 21st-century consumer, computers are an integral part of your life. But does your home computing environment work for you? Even if you already have a wireless network, you've probably found "dead spots" in your home where your Internet connection fades in and out, or drops off completely.

Now, say good-bye to those dead spots ... and say hello to the freedom to work (and play) absolutely anywhere in your home!

With the RangeMax Wireless Router, your whole house becomes a "hot spot." NETGEAR's exclusive RangeMax technology gives you the longest range of any wireless device on the market today - up to 10 times the wireless coverage of 802.11g. So you'll have a sizzling-fast, consistent connection in every room of your house ... and beyond.

Put the NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless Router to work for you, and that's all you need - leave those range extenders, repeaters, and external antennas at the store. RangeMax adjusts to the interference and physical barriers in your home, and delivers up to 500, 000 square feet of coverage - 1000% more than 802.11g. And you don't need to throw away your old wireless devices; RangeMax is 100% compatible with your existing 802.11b/g products and will boost their range and speed by up to 50%.

RangeMax is an advanced Smart MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) technology that uses seven internal antennas. RangeMax constantly surveys your home environment for physical barriers and interference and adjusts the wireless signal to compensate for these performance blockers. For example, if you carry your laptop from the family room to the bedroom, RangeMax automatically senses the change and selects from over 100 possible antenna configurations to deliver you the fastest, clearest connection! Everyone will enjoy consistently high-speed connections, everywhere in your house - no drop-outs, and no dead spots.

Think you can't set up your wireless router without an engineering degree? Think again. NETGEAR's SmartWizard makes the set-up easy and hassle-free. SmartWizard automatically detects your ISP's network settings, then walks you through each step of the installation process. It's like having your own computer technician, right by your side.

NETGEAR also ensures that every computer user in your home network can work and play safely - with a double firewall, WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), and WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access, Pre-Shared Key) Security, your network will have powerful safeguards against unauthorized usage.

Pros:  Easy setup, very good range

Cons:  None A couple months ago I unfortunately found myself on the market for a new wireless router, as my existing wireless router ethernet ports were malfunctioning. I selected the RangeMax from NetGear and have been blown away by the product. Not only was the setup wizard easy to go through (I'm not a techie) but the product itself has surpassed my expectations. I'm getting much less performance degradation through the many walls in my house. (2 story) The range of my RangeMax eclipses the range of my old wireless router. I am free to roam to any corner of my house!!!

Pros:  Sexy design, MIMO longer range, easy to setup and use.

Cons:  Big, the light could be disturb when you sleep, only use long range with only g standard. I's just bougt it 2 weeks ago after check all the network hardwares. It has all normal standard for normal router, one big diffirent is the MIMO technology. It allows your laptop connect wirlessly for long range, it's about more than 100m far from the router and the signal still very good and the connection stable without drop down or lost. Very good router.

Pros:  MIMO technology

Cons:  Freaking Lights!!! Well, Its say its gives nice range, but i didn't test it with the RangeMax Adapter. But it gives a very reliable and steady signal. Doesn't drop signal when you are far away. I had linksys, which i got from verizon for free. It was pretty shitty. It didn't work so well, i had to keep resesting it, bc it wouldn't function properly. I didn't invest $130 dollars on this router, but i tried it out. Its been a very reliable unit. I am very skeptical when it comes to electronics. i have to say this is worth the price,I would recommend it.

One of the Best Wireless Routers out there

Pros:  Ease of Set-up, Excellent Coverage

Cons:  None I have very little experience with Wireless routers other than helping a family member install a Linksys router with poor results. It frequently had poor signal strenghth even from 10 feet distance from the router. So the router ended up being returned and the more difficult task or wiring ethernet cables from one room to another was accomplished instead.

I have since purchased a laptop with wireless capabilities and was dreading going back to the same problems I had before. Therefore, I wanted to make sure I purchased the best possible router that was on the shelf. Hence, after a little research I took a chance on the 824 from the Netgear and haven't been disappointed.

The setup was easy and took about 15 minutes. All it asked was to have my DSL connection up and running during the install and it did the rest. I can excellent signal strength from downstairs or any other room in my house and haven't had a dropped connection yet after 6 months of use. I can't be any happier.

My only recommendation, don't forget the password upon inital set-up because I did and now have the unfortunate task to reinstall the router the next time I need to change settings on it. But in the mean, if it aint broke, don't fix it.

Pros:  Many security options

Cons:  meant only for consumer use It has soem good security featuers like WPA2 (TKIP AES.
and IP filtering..you can filter unwated websites and shedule internet loging time.and you can deny unwanted people to access the internet during busy hours..

Looks god it has some birght blue lights and people will atract ..good design..

But when it comes to performance what I can say is **sucks* I have to reset it evrymorning coz it goes idel..sometimes you have to reset the router during working time coz your clients wont connect to the router.
If you have 4-5 PCs or Notebooks this is a good product to implement.

Pros:

Many security options
Excellent range
High throughput

Cons: Limited monitoring Options
Very limited and poor technical support

meant only for consumer use
